Tyla Makes History as First African Host of Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards

Grammy Award-winning South African artist Tyla is breaking new ground as she becomes the first African to host the prestigious Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. This historic announcement marks a major milestone in global representation for African entertainers on one of the world’s most recognizable youth entertainment stages.
The 2025 edition of the Kids’ Choice Awards will be broadcast live from Santa Monica, California on June 21, 2025, and Tyla’s selection as host signals her rising international acclaim following the success of her hit single Water and her Grammy win for Best African Music Performance earlier this year.
In addition to hosting duties, Tyla is also adding her voice to the upcoming Smurfs movie soundtrack, which boasts a powerhouse lineup including Rihanna and Cardi B. This collaboration places Tyla in the global spotlight once again, showcasing her versatility and growing influence in both music and film.
Fans around the world are celebrating this proud moment not just for Tyla, but for African pop culture as a whole, with many calling it a “win for the continent.”
As excitement builds ahead of the award show, Tyla continues to elevate the African sound and style on a world stage—breaking boundaries, inspiring a new generation, and proving that African excellence knows no limits.
