On May 16, 2025, FUSHA Kids, led by award-winning dancer, choreographer, and educator Funmilayo Chesney, unveiled their debut children's album, I Believe In Myself. This 12-track collection blends traditional African rhythms with contemporary Afrobeats, samba, salsa, hip-hop, reggae, calypso, and soca, aiming to inspire self-confidence and cultural pride among children aged 5 to 12.
The album features songs like "I Am A Leader," a call-and-response pledge with a jazzy piano background, and "Afro Alphabet," which combines letters with affirmations such as "A – African American! B – Black is Beautiful! C – People of Color! D – Dignity!"
Funmilayo Chesney, the creative force behind FUSHA Kids, has a rich background in African dance and education. Born in Brazil, raised in Guyana, and based in New York City, she has performed and taught at venues like the United Nations, Carnegie Hall, and the Apollo Theater. Her work emphasizes empowering children through music and dance, celebrating the African Diaspora's cultural heritage.
I Believe In Myself is available on major digital platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon. To celebrate the release, Funmilayo Chesney and FUSHA Dance will perform at the 19th annual Dance Parade New York on May 17, 2025, where she has been named one of this year’s Grand Marshals.
