“Asem broke my heart” – Richie Mensah

In a candid conversation on Joy Prime’s Changes show, Richie Mensah, CEO of Lynx Group (parent of Lynx Entertainment), reflected on his journey with artists exiting his label. He emphasized that while parting ways is natural, artists deserve autonomy once they're capable of managing their own careers .
Richie explained:
> “It will be selfish to say an artiste should never leave. You put somebody on, help them to a point… at that point it’s up to them if they want … to find their own path.”

---
💔 Emotional impact of Asem’s exit
He admitted that he was rarely surprised or emotionally affected by artist departures—except for his first signee, Asem:
> “The one that surprised me the most was Asem because that was the first time it happened.”

ModernGhana also quoted him directly:
> “Asem broke my heart when he left Lynx.”

Richie acknowledged that Asem’s exit was more personal:
Asem was the first artist to leave Lynx, so Richie felt the impact more keenly than with later departures .
However, as more artists left over time, Richie adapted and developed a business mindset—viewing departures as inevitable in the cycle of growth .

---
🎯 Richie’s leadership stance
Richie stressed it’s unfair and unrealistic for artists to be locked into a label indefinitely—contracts end, careers evolve .
Although he still feels there’s more he could have done for each artist, he affirms he doesn’t resent their choices to leave once they reach independence .
