The South African Music Awards (SAMA31) are gearing up for an unforgettable celebration of artistry, culture, and the vibrant spirit of the nation’s sound. As anticipation builds ahead of the hybrid ceremony taking place on 14 December 2025, organisers have officially unveiled this year’s creative direction and the dynamic hosting duo set to lead the night.
A Theme Rooted in Gratitude: “Flowers For Those Who Keep Our Nation Singing”
SAMA31 will bloom in radiant colour under its newly revealed theme, “Flowers For Those Who Keep Our Nation Singing” — a heartfelt tribute to South African musicians who continue to inspire, innovate, and uplift through sound.
The theme captures the essence of giving artists their flowers while they can still smell them, honouring not only their achievements but also their resilience and courage to create. From producers and composers to vocalists and emerging innovators, the ceremony will celebrate every contributor who keeps the rhythm of the nation alive.
“This theme is a call to appreciation,” says SAMA Spokesperson Unati Gwija.“It recognises the artists who turn struggle into sound and rhythm into resilience. This is their bouquet — a collective standing ovation.”
The creative direction will bring this vision to life through lush floral installations, organic textures, bold colours, and sustainable artistic expression crafted by local designers. The entire showcase aims to reflect growth, beauty, and the ever-evolving nature of South African music.
A Hybrid Celebration for a Digital Generation
While SAMA31 will be a closed in-person event, organisers promise a wide-reaching, immersive experience through digital platforms and a broadcast on SABC1. Live streaming, interactive moments, and community-driven storytelling are set to extend the celebration far beyond the venue, creating an inclusive moment for fans across the globe.
With support from major partners including the Motsepe Foundation, DSAC, SAMPRA, SAMRO, CAPASSO, Gauteng DSAC, YouTube, and SABC, the SAMA continues to stand tall as the gold standard of South African music recognition.
The Hosts: Scoop Makhathini & Pamela Mtanga Set to Light Up SAMA31
Alongside the theme reveal, SAMA31 has confirmed a powerhouse duo to guide the night’s celebrations: Scoop Makhathini and Pamela Mtanga.
Pamela Mtanga: A New Bloom With Electric Presence
A rising force in broadcasting and digital storytelling, Pamela Mtanga brings freshness, confidence, and cultural fluency to the SAMA stage. Her media journey—spanning digital influence, fashion, beauty, and television presenting—has made her one of the most magnetic young voices in South African pop culture.
Educated at Nelson Mandela University and polished on platforms like Channel O’s Massive Music, Pamela represents the next generation of African storytellers commanding national attention.
Siyabonga “Scoop” Ngwekazi: The Culture Bearer
Scoop Makhathini, born Siyabonga Ngwekazi, returns to the spotlight as one of Mzansi’s most respected cultural commentators. With decades of experience across TV, production, media entrepreneurship, and street culture, Scoop has shaped the narrative of modern South African entertainment.
His sharp insight, authenticity, and deep connection to youth culture make him a natural fit for a ceremony rooted in artistry, resilience, and cultural evolution.
A Duo That Embodies the Spirit of SAMA31
Together, Scoop and Pamela represent the perfect balance of wisdom and freshness, roots and new petals—a reflection of this year’s theme. Their chemistry, charisma, and cultural resonance are expected to elevate SAMA31’s hybrid showcase to new heights.
“They bring experience, authenticity and cultural relevance,” says Gwija.“They’re not just presenters — they’re guides for the journey we’re taking to honour South African music.”
A Garden of Celebration Awaits
As the petals unfold for SAMA31, one thing is undeniable: South African music continues to bloom—wild, beautiful, and unstoppable. Rooted in heritage yet reaching for new horizons, the SAMA31 ceremony promises a celebration worthy of the artists who keep our nation singing
