The Basadi in Music Awards, South Africa’s premier event honoring women in music, has unveiled its 2025 nominees ahead of a dazzling two-night ceremony at Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein, Johannesburg on August 1–2, 2025 .
Event Format & Theme.
Night 1 – Vanguard Awards (August 1): Invite-only gala recognizing behind-the-scenes excellence—artist managers, producers, stylists, radio producers, and others who shape the industry .
Night 2 – Main Music Awards (August 2): Public event celebrating top performers across 28 categories, from Amapiano and gospel to songwriting and traditional music .
Theme: “Symphony of Harmony – Four Elements of Nature” (Earth, Water, Fire, Air), designed to symbolize the dynamic and united spirit of women in music. Guests are encouraged to reflect the theme in their attire .
Nominees & Standouts
Nominees were announced on June 19, with Zee Nxumalo leading the pack with 4 nominations in key categories: Sofnfree Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (“Ngisakuthanda”), and more .
Other notable nominees include Relebogile Mabotja, Makhadzi, Kamo Mphela, Xolly Mncwango, Sneziey, Nontokozo Mkhize, and many others across genres, showcasing the depth and diversity of South Africa’s female talent .
Fashion-forward artists Moozlie and Anele Zondo go head-to-head for Best Styled Artist, highlighting the blend of music and style at the event .

Voting for public categories runs from June 19 to July 19 via SMS and online platforms, following nominations closure on May 30 .
