EIIAFRICA Exclusive: Meet Tonnastereo — The Dynamic Creative Rising From Anambra to the World

EIIAFRICA recently had the pleasure of hosting Tonna Agubata, professionally known as Tonnastereo, for an exclusive interview that opened a window into his journey, dreams, and creative philosophy. From his early childhood in Anambra State, Nigeria, to his evolving position in the African music landscape, his story is one filled with passion, resilience, and intentional growth.

A Childhood Tuned Into Music

During our conversation, Tonnastereo shared that his love for music began almost as early as he could remember. As a young boy, he was always glued to the TV, excited by every melody, jingle, and rhythm. His curiosity grew into a lifestyle—studying music in school, drumming in church, buying lyric sheets, memorizing rap lines, and performing freestyles with friends.
His first professional step came in 2014 when a friend invited him to join a studio session. That moment became the spark that launched his journey as an artist.

Where the Name “Tonnastereo” Comes From

When asked about the origin of his stage name, he explained that “Tonna” means praise the father, while “Stereo” signifies dimensional wave frequencies. Together, Tonnastereo represents a channel of good music rooted in gratitude and resonance.

A Dynamic and Spontaneous Artistry

Tonnastereo describes his style as dynamic and spontaneous, shaped by legendary influences such as Usher, Lil Wayne, P-Square, and Flavour N’abania. These inspirations helped him find a unique balance between soulful melody, rhythmic storytelling, and African identity.

The Stories Behind His Projects

Speaking about his project Realms and Resonance, he told EIIAFRICA that the goal was to highlight life stories with silver linings—experiences that taught him lessons and strengthened his purpose. He writes music when he feels deeply, and records mostly when there is demand, ensuring authenticity in every release.

Challenges, Hustle, and Growth

Like many aspiring artists, Tonnastereo faced gradual financial and social support. He explained how he had to work jobs, push through life’s realities, and fund his music step by step. But he never stopped believing. “People catch on with the flow when it is due,” he shared with confidence.
Looking back, he takes pride in every moment that led him here. Each stage, each challenge, and every small win prepared him for the creative height he is climbing today.

Creative Inspiration

When we asked how he stays grounded and inspired, he shared that he listens, reads, and observes random things daily. Then he applies those insights to life. This creates a standard he hopes his listeners can relate to—real experiences, real thoughts, real evolution.

And yes, the sound is getting louder, far beyond his expectations.

Views on the Industry

To him, the music industry keeps changing in packaging and style, but at its core, it remains the same. “Same old, same old. Just different packages,” he said. He prefers to watch, learn, and pick what aligns with his direction.

Advice to Young Creatives

His advice during our interview was simple but powerful:“If you really want it and keep on for good, it will refine you.”Consistency, he believes, shapes greatness.

If Not Music? Engineering.

When we asked what path he might have taken outside music, he proudly mentioned Engineering—another field that matches his love for building and creativity.

Cultural Influence

Tonnastereo also highlighted that his Igbo and Nigerian cultural background is a major advantage he carries with pride. It influences his identity, sound, and storytelling.

His Philosophy of Life

To conclude our session, he shared a meaningful life code:Live it and love it—life, people, universe. There’s more benefit that way, for us and for all.

Final Thoughts

Hosting Tonnastereo on EIIAFRICA was a refreshing and inspiring experience. His authenticity, determination, and cultural grounding position him as one of the voices to watch in the evolving African soundscape. As his journey continues to unfold, one thing is certain—Tonnastereo is stepping into his moment, and the world is tuning in.
