Celebrated Pan-African music and lifestyle festival, Blankets & Wine, is set to mark its 16th anniversary with a historic first international edition in Bradford, United Kingdom. Scheduled for September 6, 2025, the event will take place at Lister Park as part of the UK/Kenya Season 2025, in collaboration with the British Council.
Since its inception in Nairobi in 2008, Blankets & Wine has been a beacon of African music, culture, and lifestyle, showcasing both emerging and established artists from across the continent. Known for its dynamic programming across two stages, curated food, fashion and crafts markets, artistic installations, branded experiences, and an overall high standard of production, the festival has become a beloved quarterly Sunday ritual in Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda.
Founder Muthoni Ndonga, popularly known as Muthoni The Drummer Queen, expressed her excitement about the international expansion:
> “This is a dream come true. Since 2008, we’ve been passionate about showcasing the incredible talent of African musicians, building a real community of fans, vendors, and sponsors, and scaling opportunities across the live music value chain. Taking Blankets & Wine to the UK is the next step in exporting our music and culture, and is a testament to the power of Blankets in transcending borders and connecting people from all walks of life.”
The Bradford edition will maintain the signature Blankets & Wine experience, featuring two music stages, curated food and fashion markets, art installations, and branded experiences. The event promises a handpicked lineup of African artists, with official announcements expected by the end of June 2025.
This milestone not only celebrates 16 years of championing African music and culture but also signifies a significant step in elevating African culture on the global stage.
